What toys do at night
Children brought their favorite stuffed animal for story time, then left the animals overnight.
One of the mysteries of what stuffed animals do at night when their owners are asleep, was answered by this recent hidden camera photo. Staff at the Stanwood Library offered a Stuffed Animal Sleepover Feb. 5, when children brought their favorite stuffed animal for story time, then left the animals overnight, to be picked up Saturday morning.
The staff was very surprised when 117 people showed up at the library. “We were overwhelmed by the attendance at this after hours event,” said Joy Feldman, children’s librarian.
“Children clad in pajamas poured into our meeting room, clutching their stuffed animals. I was surprised to see a number of stuffed animals that were big as the little people carrying them!
“The children were so excited and we had a wild rumpus of a storytime about stuffed animals and toys.
“Many parents told us that their children had been looking forward to this event all week, working hard to select which special animal would be allowed to sleepover at the library.
“All that night and the next morning they talked about what their stuffed animal might be doing at the sleepover.
“I heard lots of giggles when animals were picked up the next morning, roused from their slumber on a sleeping bag. Each child took home a photo of the group sleeping together and a photo of what their own animal did that night,” she concluded.
