Meditation, multiple sclerosis, diabetes classes

The following Health- Quest programs are provided by Skagit Valley Hospital:

• Certified child safety seat technicians will assess child safety seats for ageand size-appropriateness, proper installation and use, recalls and visible damage, fro m1

- 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 in the covered area near Diagnostic Services entrance at Skagit Valley Hospital at 13th Street in Mount Vernon. Co-sponsored by Skagit Safe Kids and SVH, pre-registration is not required. Call Bill Craig at 360-428-3236 for more information regarding additional dates and times.

• Individual weight loss and nutrition counseling is offered by Lou Kupka- Schutt, PhD, RD, who provides support in setting and meeting nutritional and weight loss goals. The cost is $239 for this three-month program. Call Lou at 360- 814-8274 for more information or call Skagit Valley Hospital at 360-814-2424 to register for the program.

• Meditation refresher is a one-evening class 6–8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for individuals who want to rekindle their meditation practice in a group setting, with instructor Jan Hodgman, MA. To register call Skagit Valley Hospital at 360-814-2424 or 360-629- 6481. The class is in the Cascade Room at Skagit Valley Hospital and the cost is $19.

• The Multiple Sclerosis Wellness Symposium 8 a.m. – noon Saturday, Feb. 27 includes breakout sessions with presentations on nutrition, emotional health and personal wellbeing. Speakers will include Lou Kupka-Schutt, PhD, RD, Abby Staten, multiple sclerosis yoga instructor and Diane McRae, MSW Care Manager with the National MS Society Greater Washington Chapter in the Skagit Valley Hospital Deli, 1415 E. Kincaid, Mount Vernon. No charge but pre-registration is required. Call 1-800-344- 4867 and press option 1 or visit www.MSwashington. org and click on Programs and Services.

• Skagit Valley Hospital offers a comprehensive education program for adults with diabetes, either newly diagnosed or for those patients needing extra guidance with diabetes control. The program requires a physician referral and is covered by most insurance companies.
