ROBERT EDWARD DOWN

Robert Edward Down, better known as Bob Down, died on Saturday, January 23, 2010. He was born on January 22, 1931 to Marian Teresa (McAlees) Down and Alfred George Down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Bob grew up with an older brother Richard and a younger sister Barbara.
Bob joined the Army in June of 1947 and he was sent overseas in 1948. He served during the Korean War with the 1st Calvary division. He met his wife Anna who was also in the military serving with the 155 Station Hospital in Yokohama, Japan. They were married in October of 1951.
Bob is survived by his wife Anna and four children, Peter Down, Kathy Swanson, Rob Down and David Down, his sister Barbara, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Bob retired in 1993 from Boeing after 34 years as an industrial engineer. While at Boeing he started the Adopt- A-Sock program for children during the Christmas season, which eventually joined Toys for Tots. Making sure every child had a gift to open during the Christmas season was a passion of Bob’s all his life.
Bob and Anna moved to Camaloch on Camano Island in 1995.
During his retirement years they traveled to many places in the U.S., Europe and Great Britain. He was a man of many interests and hobbies and was always willing to give a helping hand. He was a man of great strength, and for him, the Down family always came first.
He will be missed, but those of us he left behind know that he is with our Lord.
