Consumers can now verify licenses of lenders nationwide
Washington consumers seeking licensing information on mortgage lenders now have a new resource, according to the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).
The Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS), a mortgage licensing system operated by state financial regulators, including Washington, is launching “NMLS Consumer Access.” Full Story

EvCC adds $30,000 for student scholarships
Applications are due March 1 for 40 new $750 student scholarships for spring quarter at Everett Community College, since the college is adding $30,000 to its scholarship fund and it will be awarded to students through the Everett Community College Foundation. Retail sales decline another 11.6 percent
Taxable retail sales declined 11.6 percent to $26.4 billion during the third quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, the Washington State Department of Revenue reported recently.
The July through September sales decline is the third largest on record, after 14 percent during the second quarter of 2009 and 12.8 percent during the first quarter. Full Story
Tax manual available online
The Department of Revenue has published Tax Reference Manual 2010 on its Web site. Last revised in 2007, the 225-page report provides an overview of Washington’s tax system and summarizes state and local taxes. It cites their purpose, history, rate changes, and revenue produced from each tax over the past decade. Full Story
AAUW seeks applicants for scholarships
Applications are due by April 30 for the Stanwood- Camano American Association of University Women scholarship for students who have graduated from high school in the Arlington/Stanwood/ Camano Island area or who currently reside there. Full Story
