Jewelry heist, plus girls beat up 40 mailboxes
Island County Sheriff’s
deputies on Camano Island
responded to the following
recently:
• Approximately 40 mailboxes along the 1300 block of Lakeway Drive were vandalized late last year. A 76- year-old man living in the area reported the damages. Subsequent investigation led deputies to recommend that a 14-year-old girl be issued a citation in connection with three counts of malicious mischief. Deputies also recommended that a 13-year-old girl be issued a citation in connection with one count of malicious mischief.
• On Jan. 4, a 50-yearold man reported the theft of over $20,000 worth of jewelry, a flat-screen television and an armoire from his residence in the 1300 block of Arrowhead Road. The man said his children had called him after discovering the burglary upon their return home from school. Area residents described seeing a pickup in the area earlier that day.
• On Jan. 6, deputies stopped a silver 2008 Dodge Ram for traveling in excess of the posted speed limit near N. East Camano Drive and McElroy Road. The male driver was cited in connection with driving with license suspended and an obstructed license plate. The vehicle was impounded in connection with a recent burglary.
• A 59-year-old woman, living in the 2200 block of Arrowhead Road, reported $9,549.74 in fraudulent charges to her credit card on Jan. 4.
• A 56-year-old man, also living in the 2200 block of Arrowhead Road, reported $570.30 in fraudulent charges to his debit card.
• The 46-year-old male caretaker of a residential property in the 1300 block of Arrowhead Road reported an attempted burglary on Jan. 5. The screen had been removed from one window, and the frame was damaged where the culprit(s) attempted to force the window open. There was no further damage, and nothing was missing from the property.
• On Jan. 5, an employee of a business in the 800 block of Good Road reported that a wire fence surrounding the property had been cut, and tire marks indicated a small vehicle had been driven through the opening. The employee, a 36-year-old man, was unable to determine anything was missing.
• The front license plate from a blue 2005 AMC Hummer was stolen while the vehicle was parked at a residence in the 1900 block of Scarecrow Drive. The vehicle’s owner, a 40-year-old woman, reported the stolen plate on Jan. 14.
• On Jan. 17, a 50-yearold woman reported the theft of a thermostat from her greenhouse in the 1200 block of Sunnyshore Drive.
• A Nikon Coolpix 5600 digital camera was reported missing from a 43-year-old man’s residence on Lynn Drive, Jan. 9.
• On Jan. 13, a 41-yearold man reported a .22 caliber rifle missing from his residence in the 800 block of Smith Road. There are no suspects or leads in the case.
• Deputies received a report of a vehicle that was “all over the roadway” from a 29-year-old woman on Jan. 8. Deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of North Camano Drive and Arrowhead Road. The vehicle’s 21-year-old driver was cited in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI). She had one passenger in the vehicle, a 32-yearold man.
• After witnessing the erratic driving of a blue 2001 Dodge Intrepid on Jan. 10, during which time the vehicle crossed the fog line multiple times and failed to maintain consistent speed, deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Lehman Drive and Russell Road. The 37-year-old man was cited in connection with driving with license suspended. He was also cited in connection with DUI and failure to have an interlock device in his car, which he was required to have per his probation arrangements.
• On Jan. 11, a 27-yearold woman residing in the 200 block of Legend Lane reported that her mailbox was missing and several others were damaged.
• Deputies received a call on Jan. 10, from a 56- year-old man, regarding the forced entry and burglary of a residence in the 500 block of W. Camano Hill Road. The man reported a real-estate key box missing from the front door, a doorknob missing from an adjacent door, and a missing propane heater.
• On Jan. 19, deputies arrested a 37-year-old man, residing in the 800 block of Arrowhead Road, in connection with failure to register as a sex-offender in Island County. He was transported to Coupeville for booking.
• Deputies stopped a white 1995 Dodge Ram near Camano Plaza for traveling with one headlight and no tail lights, on Jan. 17. They cited the driver, a 46-year-old man, in connection to driving with license suspended.
• On Jan. 12, deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near the intersection of W. Dry Lake Road and Ivy Way. Two men were inside the white 1996 Ford Aspire. Upon further investigation, deputies cited the 20-year-old male passenger in connection with possession of marijuana, less than 40 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
