Driverless truck strikes, derails train
Keys in ignition and no sign of trauma inside vehicle
A northbound freight train came to a halt just past the Miller Road crossing near Stanwood early Thursday morning with a stolen pickup truck wedged beneath one of its tanker cars.
The truck was totaled. Tires splayed out and the steering column sprouted above the flattened roof.
Dangling from the column, in the ignition was a set of keys. Full Story
New city financial planning model
Crystil Robinson, Stanwood’s finance director, demonstrated a new financial planning model for the city council on Thursday.
While looking for a model to adopt, Robinson said she spoke with folks in Marysville, Mount Vernon and Lynnwood. The model she settled on calculates figures spanning seven years – in this case, 2010-2016. Full Story
Warmest January on record
It’s official. January was the warmest on record, for Seattle at least.
The National Weather Service recorded an average temperature of 47 degrees for January, nearly 7 degrees warmer than the normal average and half a degree higher than the previous record set in 2006. Full Story
