Ray Mather’s Spartan wrestlers scored four wins against highly-rated Lake Stevens and then racked up a few victories in the lower middleweights against Cascade before succumbing 46-30 in last week’s Western Conference 4A North action.
Against the Lakers, Jarred Studley led the local wrestlers to three straight individual victories as he pinned his opposite at the 4:43 mark of the third period of his 130-pound bout.
Freshman 135 pounder, Zach Schut, decisioned his adversary 7-4 before Wade Weinert followed with a solid 9-4 win at 140 pounds.
Later junior David Aufai outscored his foe 11-8 in his 171-pound match.
During the Bruin match, sophomore Casey Mather, who grappled at the girls’ state level last season, pinned Cascade’s Alex Reeves in 2 minutes, 29 seconds at 112 pounds.
Two bouts later, Nick Kinsman (125 pounds) took on James Wooldridge and recorded a pinfall in 3:15.
Jarred Studley (130) continued his winning ways with a pin of Josh Loehr in just 36 seconds.
Wade Weinert, Stanwood’s 140 pounder, also pinned his man, Zac Duncan, in the third round (4:48).
Cascade’s Keanah Sand lost by pin to the Sparts’ 160-pound co-captain Joe Eidness as well.
