Yes, let’s build a community pool in Heritage Park

Dear Editor:

I would like to respond to the guest editorial in the January 19 NEWS.

Yes! A pool would be wonderful! I’ve been “talking” about why doesn’t our community have a swimming pool?

I have never done anything about it, just talked.

I’ve heard through the grapevine that years ago something was started and the city had approximately $20,000 raised, but the money has since been used for other things. I don’t know what.

I don’t want to stir anything up, but I believe once upon a time a pool was going to be put in Heritage Park. Wouldn’t that make sense?

Does the city own that land?

We have sort of a skate park there — a great start to one.

I believe that whole park could be enhanced.

Why aren’t there any trees back there blocking the wind?

When my son played baseball it was horrible sitting there getting froze to death. That whole area could be developed and become a beautiful park and recreation area for our community. I believe we have enough talent, money and resources among us all, if people pitch in and want to make this happen.

Twisp has an amazing community center. About five years ago, when I was camping there, we happened upon this community pool. It also had an indoor area with ping-pong, foosball and pinball for kids to play. The entrance was a nominal fee of $2 or $3.

You could tell the community was really proud and loved it. The young and old had somewhere to go without having to pay high membership fees.

Who else out there is interested in this for our community?

Mayor Dianne White just gave her speech about us needing a “can do” attitude.

Our Stanwood and Camano Island community has pulled together for so many things, so many people, so many causes. Remember WalMart?
