Koffman displays art in Haugen’s Olympia office
Camano Island artist Dan Koffman shows one of his works to Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen before hanging nearly a dozen paintings in her Olympia office Jan. 15.
Camano Island artist Dan Koffman delivered nearly a dozen works of art to Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen in Olympia recently. The art will remain on display in her Olympia office through the 2010 legislative session.
“I love to show off our local artists every session, for two reasons,” Haugen said. “They deserve all the exposure they can get, and I wind up with beautiful works of art all over my walls.”
Koffman and his wife Sandy let the senator choose from among an array of pieces, featuring motifs ranging from crabs entitled “Life is a Crabaret on Camano Island,” and a depiction of the oceanliner S.S. Vino with a palm-treed Camano Island in the background, to “Visit the Giant Reds of Washington,” a forest of towering, fir-sized wine bottles from a groundlevel perspective.
He said his work taps the synergy between art and business.
“My goal is to find common ground. We have more in common than we have different,” he said. “The arts and business approach celebrates our commonalities in a good-natured way.”
Haugen’s district covers all of Island County and parts of Snohomish and Skagit counties.
