• Watch for glass snowballs. Stanwood and Camano Island are having a treasure hunt Feb. 12–28, when local residents and visitors will have a chance to find plastic balls containing a clue with the name and address of a sponsor who will present a limited-edition glass snowball created by local glass artist, Mark Ellinger. Sponsors who have already awarded their glass balls will provide a chance to purchase one or enter a contest to win one at a drawing on March 10. • Winter classes at Gallery by the Bay include:

• Watercolor painting with Michele Cooper 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday mornings in February. All levels welcome to learn how to capture natural landscape.

• Surface design on paper with instructor Chris Chennault, an experienced book artist, from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4.

• Beginning Photoshop Elements for artists with instructor Van Aguirre, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11.

• Get your Web site up and running in 30 days, a series for artists with instructor Gayle Pickens, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 25, Feb. 1, and Feb. 8.

• Open painting studio 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Thursdays, $8 per session.

• Life drawing sessions 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays, $10 drop-in.

• The annual Unclad exhibit will be at the gallery March 13-28.

• Arlington Arts Council presents an art show, Art at the Eagle Festival, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Feb. 5 and 6, with member artists showing their work and a community eagle and wildlife photography contest, at 103 Third Street, across from the police station in downtown Arlington. The Eagle Festival is presented by the city of Arlington and the Stillaguamish Tribe with eagle viewing at the Nature Conservancy property at the mouth of the river Saturday, Feb. 6 and many events at Arlington City Hall. The Western Gallery at WWU presents “Transformations 6: Contemporary Works in Glass,” featuring the work of 28 artists, through March 13. Five artists from the Northwest include Robert Carlson, Paul Marioni, Kait Rhoads, Robert Snyder and Mark Zirpel. Admission is free, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Wednesdays when the gallery is open until 8 p.m., and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For information see westerngallery. wwu.edu.
