PHOTO BY JOHN GALBREATH | STANWOOD/CAMANO NEWS Wade Weinert and Jarred Studley, a pair of underclassmen, posted two dual meet wins last week and then Saturday grabbed two of the three top places in the Marysville Premier Wrestling Tournament along with senior teammate Joe Eidsness.

Weinert pinned both of his opponents during the week’s WesCo 4A North action. His first occurred against Snohomish’s 140- pounder, Ammon Morrill, in the first period after just a minute, 37 seconds. The second came in his match against Everett when he placed Tyler Dutton’s shoulders to the mat at the 2:39 mark.

Studley, on the other hand, took his two encounters by decision against the Panthers and the Seagulls. The 130-pound Spartan scored two reversals and a thirdperiod takedown to win 6-2 on Tuesday and then outwrestled Snohomish’s Josh Anderson in a wild one for a 14-10 decision.

Meanwhile the Sparts’ Eidsness (160) pinned Everett’s Evan Paeth in 2:14 as did fellow senior Mark Pelham at 145 pounds (5:09) after building up a 6-0 lead against his Seagull adversary.

Zach Schut, a freshman wrestling at 135, pinned Snohomish’s Grifynn Clay at the 3:08 mark of the second frame for Stanwood’s only other triumph during those dual meets.

Stanwood lost 58-15 to the Panthers and 53-21 to the Seagulls.

At week’s end as the Spartans finished 11th overall with 60 points at Marysville, Studley earned a second place with pins of Burlington-Edison’s Keith Egbert, Glacier Peak’s Timmy Douglas and Omak’s DeShawn Dunham. He lost, however, by pinfall in the finals to Isaac Gates from Wenatchee.

Eidsness took third with victories over La Conner’s Arther Brown (by pin), Granite Falls’ Ryan Teter (pin) and O’Dea’s Gino Clement (4-3 decision). Prior to the latter match, he lost a narrow 6-5 decision to Dakota Long from Wenatchee that dropped him into the consolation finals.

Weinert garnered a fifth place by pinning both Joe Venskus (Mariner) and Connor Strong (Glacier Peak) before losing consecutive decisions to brothers Nico and Ricco Moreno from Moses Lake.

Both Travis Stone and Zach Schut won a match in the prestigious tournament before losing two later on during the day.
