Sheriff hosts meeting on the release of a sex offender

Mathew Clark will be living on Camano Island. Mathew Clark will be living on Camano Island. The Island County Sheriffs Office has released information about the release of a sex offender, who will be living on Camano Island, and a meeting is planned at Madrona Fire Station, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 916 W 5th St. Camano Island to answer peoples’ questions.

The offender, Mathew Clark, has served his time and law enforcement agencies do not have the legal authority to direct where an offender lives, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

In September 2007, Clark sexually assaulted a 13-yearold female during a juvenile drinking party. He admitted to additional sexual assaults with this female on two other occasions.

“The offender has served the sentence imposed by the courts and is not wanted by law enforcement at this time,” says the release.

Clark is required to register with the sheriffs office in the county of his residence for 10 years, or until relieved by the courts of the duty to do so. He is currently under supervision of the department of corrections.

The Jan. 27 meeting with Island County Sheriff Mark Brown, precinct deputies and other officials, will cover the following issues:

• Discuss the Level 2 registered sex offender, with a moderate risk to re-offend, who will be residing in the 900 block of Blackburn Road, on Camano Island.

• Learn about the state’s sex offender registration laws.

• Voice concerns about local law enforcement issues.

• Talk about how the community can help keep neighborhoods safe.

Parents are urged to keep in mind the following basic safety rules and talk with children about the importance of these rules:

• Always know the whereabouts of your children.

• Small children should never be left alone.

• Teach your children not to go with anyone without your permission, to refuse any pressure from strangers and to seek help.

• Be alert to unusual or suspicious circumstances and report immediately.

For information call the sheriff’s office at 360-678- 4422.
