Community Focus

COMPILED BY CAROL SCHMIDT

Dr. Scott VonBergen and staff of Restoration Dental would like to thank all who participated with their holiday food drive! “Together, we were able to donate a grocery cart full of food to the Stanwood Food Bank and raise $510 for the Community Resource Foundation,” they said.

The Stanwood Camano Rotary Club recently awarded COCOON HOUSE a $2,500 grant in support of their Teen Shelter Services Program. Cocoon House is the only organization within Snohomish County providing shelter and support services to teens. It’s more than a warm place to sleep but a focused effort to reduce the number of teens living on the streets throughout the county. The program is expanding and plans on providing shelter in Monroe in addition to the existing shelters in Everett and Arlington. Cocoon House has provided services for nearly 20 years and has developed a robust county-wide program that includes prevention programs, a drop-in center and a team of highly trained outreach volunteers to overnight shelters. The organization also recently received a state grant to assist with gang and youth violence prevention. To learn more about the local Rotary Club, visit StanwoodRotary.org, or call 360-722-7811, or e-mail Help@StanwoodRotary.org. The club meets Wednesdays at noon in the Stanwood Camano School District’s board room. Weekly meeting topics range from local to global programs and issues. The public is always invited to attend, lunch available for a cost.
