Spartan wrestlers upend Wildcats
Alex Hatley took just 40 seconds to dispatch his opponent Matt Wilson in the 285-pound match against Oak Harbor and, by doing so, inspired his fellow Spartan wrestlers (1-1 in league, 3-3 overall) to six more victories in the bouts that followed to upend the Wildcats 38-30 in WesCo 4A North mat action last Friday night at the Stanwood High gym. Second-half scoring woes sink Lady Spartans
After playing their opponents point-for-point throughout the first half of each of their Western Conference 4A North hoop encounters last week, the Lady Spartans (2-4 in league, 4-6 overall) found the second half less to their liking as they absorbed a pair of league losses to Marysville- Pilchuck (71-46) and Oak Harbor (49-41). Sparts edged by Tomhawks before crushing Oak Harbor
Although stunned by a heart-breaking loss to the Tomahawks of Marysville on the home court, the Stanwood Spartan quintet (4-2 in league, 4-6 overall) recovered quickly to pummel the Oak Harbor Wildcats 59-43 with solid defense and some enthusiastic play by several reserves that kept the upstart visitors at bay most of the evening. Spartans swamp Bruins in WesCo boys swim meet
Spartan swimmers captured eight of the 12 races in their dual meet with Everett’s Cascade High last Thursday afternoon. Thereafter, the local aquanauts used their depth to guarantee the 108-67 Western Conference 4A North victory. Full Story
