Toy and clothing exchange coming up

Camano Chapel MOPS is hosting a free toy and clothing exchange Tues, Jan. 26, 12:30 to 3 p.m., at the chapel, 867 S West Camano Drive. Anyone in the community can come “shop” the exchange (no need to bring anything). Typical items may include maternity clothing, men’s and women’s clothing, baby clothes, children’s clothes, shoes, coats, household goods, books, toys, stuffed animals, baby rattles, bottles, sheets and blankets. Winter storytime at Camano Library

Ready Readers Winter Storytime is open at Camano Island Library Pilot Project. Stories, songs and crafts for preschoolers and toddlers, families welcome Fridays, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 15 – March 5 at Camano Island Library Pilot Project, 848 N. Sunrise Blvd. Phone 387-5150.

Two crab feeds set for January 23

• Camano Island crab fest at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, is Sat, Jan. 23, 3 to 7 p.m. One whole Dungeness crab, coleslaw, baked beans, bread, beverage and dessert. Tickets available at the center; sponsored by The Angel of the Winds Casino. • Camano Country Club is having its yearly crab dinner Sat, Jan. 23 for members and guests. Social hour with hors d’oeuvres (BYOB), 5:30 p.m., followed by 6:30 p.m. dinner Menu also includes cole slaw, beans, garlic bread, greens with dressing, and dessert. Chicken cordon bleu will be available for those who do not want crab. Sign up at the clubhouse, or call 387-1655.

FOCIP workers at state, county parks

Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island and Cama State parks, plus work at the new Ivy-Drylake trailhead and at Four Springs Lake Preserve next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues, Jan. 19 at the Camano Island State Park ranger station. Bring lunch, beverage and dessert provided. Newcomers are welcome to join FOCIP in work party efforts to improve Camano Island parks. South Camano Grange hosts dance

Fri, Jan. 15 is the third Friday of the month “Dancin’ at South Camano Grange.” Mix of swing, ballroom, Latin and country music. Suzanne will be teaching the “horseshoe” (a country dance) starting at 7:30 p.m. (lesson free with paid admission), followed by general dancing 8:15 to 10:30 p.m. (2227 S. Popcorn and free movie night at center

It’s a popcorn and a movie night at 7 p.m. Wed, Jan. 20, in the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive (blue building by tennis courts). “Pollinators in Peril,” a 47-minute documentary hosted by Peter Fonda, shows the importance of bees, birds, bats and insects to human food production. This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks . CARE sets Thursday meeting night

Camano Action for A Rural Environment will have its regular 7 p.m. meeting Thurs, Jan. 21 at the Terry’s Corner Windemere office, corner of Sunrise and SR 532/East Camano Drive. Topics of discussion include the upcoming second annual Taste of Camano event Feb. 27; the Leque Island restoration project sponsored by WDFW; Island County Comprehensive Plan amendments for shorelines and streams; water quality and distribution on the island. Pinkham to speak about publishing

Wed, Jan. 13, former editor and publisher of the Stanwood Camano News, Dave Pinkham, will speak about the role of a community newspaper, in the Camano Multi-Purpose Building, 141 East Camano Drive, 7 p.m. One of his topics is about the relationship between readers and the producer of a community newspaper. Open to all, bring observations, comments and questions. Presented by the Camano Island Democrats.

Special men’s event hosted by chapel

Pure Word Ministries is a Christ-centered ministry to help men recover from life-controlling issues Jan. 15, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Camano Chapel, 867 S. West Camano Drive. Questions? 387-7202.
