GLORIA E. FLECK

Dec. 22, 1922 – Nov. 25, 2009

Gloria E. Fleck went home to be with her Lord on Nov. 25, 2009.

She was born in Juneau, Alaska, Dec. 25, 1922 to Hans Axel and Rose Louise Hall Hanson.

Her marriage to Elmer K. Fleck took place in Ketchikan Jan. 1, 1942. The family moved to Conway, Wash., in January of 1950 and then to Stanwood in 1954.

Gloria graduated from Skagit Business College in Mount Vernon, operated the can-cutter machine at the Carnation plant, worked for Jack Snow in Mount Vernon, and was the jail matron at the Skagit County Jail.

She obtained her insurance license and opened Fleck Insurance Agency in Stanwood, operated the Stanwood Water Co. for Carl Olson, and served on the Stanwood Planning Commission.

She was very active in the community until moving to Soap Lake.

In Soap Lake she served on the city council as the mayor pro-tem, was active in the Evangelical Free Church as a teacher and Bible student.

She moved to Sequim in 2005 to live with her son. There, she was active in the Sequim Bible Church until her death.

Gloria loved to paint in oils and watercolors; she made jewelry and was a rock hound; she crocheted, knitted and sewed; and she also enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer in 1996, daughter Karen in 1956, three brothers, Vance in 1959, Verner in 1969 and Vincent in 2009.

She is survived by her son, Richard Lee Fleck of Sequim, her sister Sharon Rose Hanson of Stanwood, her adopted sister Theressa (Terry) Kersaan of Stanwood, her grandsons Michael B. Fleck of Snohomish, Derrick (Danielle) Fleck of Redding, Calif.; her greatgrandchildren, Lilly and Elijah in Stanwood, Judah and Zoe in Redding, and her daughter-in-law Jan Fleck of Stanwood.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Cedarhome Baptist Church, 29000 68th Ave. NW, in Stanwood and all are invited. For information call 629-9771.
