In a typical move for the Snohomish County Council, last year’s vice chair, Dave Gossett, was named council chair for 2010.
Gossett, a Democrat from Mountlake Terrace currently in his third term, served as chairman in 2007.
Former Chairman Mike Cooper said last year was an “interesting experience” dealing with the budget.
“The new chair will have an equally difficult time managing things this year and leading up to the 2011 budget,” he said prior to nominating Gossett.
As chairman, Gossett will lead the council in administrative duties with a specific focus on the county’s budget.
The council voted unanimously in favor of Gossett.
“I thank the council for their support,” he said after being appointed.
Council members also voted in Dave Somers as vice chairman for 2010.
Cooper, who was diagnosed in July with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, praised the council and county staff for working around his treatments and aiding in his recovery.
“Everyone pitched in to give me the support I needed to continue my work as council chair,” he said.
