EARLY HISTORY
Nettie Greenwell and James Bunton were married in Tennessee and later moved to Camano where they raised their 11 children. The Lindbaks arrived in Stanwood from Norway.
100 YEARS AGO (1910)

Spencer named ‘Most Inspirational’ in training program
Firefighter Klifton Spencer, of North County Regional Fire Authority, was recently named “Most Inspirational” in the Washington State Fire Academy program. Spencer graduated from the state fire training academy recruit class 09-03 in November at the North Bend training facility. Full Story
Community Focus
Boys and parents from Boy Scout Troop #86 were busy Jan. 2, picking up Christmas trees around Stanwood neighborhoods. Residents donated almost $700 to the scouts for their efforts. Of this money, half will be donated to the Stanwood-Camano Kiwanis Club for the Char Peiffer Memorial Scholarship. Full Story
Conservation district election set for Feb. 9
Snohomish Conservation District will hold an election on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 2 – 6 p.m. at the District office in Lake Stevens for a volunteer board supervisor position to serve for three years.
All registered voters who own or occupy land within the district, which includes Camano Island, are eligible to vote and run for office. Full Story
ASSE seeks students who are interested in living overseas
High school students interested in being exchange students overseas are wanted by the nonprofit inter national student exchange program, ASSE.
Formerly called the American Scandinavian Student Exchange, the program now includes many European countries as well as Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Full Story

Swedish Hospital seeks oldest ‘Swedish’ baby
Since opening its doors in 1910, approximately 200,000 babies have been born at Swedish Medical Center, and management is seeking the “oldest” person born there.
Once found, that “oldest baby” will be the hospital’s “Spokes-Baby” for the hospital’s 100th anniversary celebration this year. Full Story

The 10th Legislative District quarterly meeting is Sat., Jan. 16, 10 a.m. in the Skagit PUD building, just west of the freeway, south of College Way in Mount Vernon. Speaker is Bill Philips, chair of the Snohomish County Democrats and the topic is the 2010 elections. Parking and entrance are in the back of the building. Full Story
