Notice: Crabbing season is closed
Island County Sheriff’s
deputies on Camano Island
responded to the following
recently:
• Deputies responded to a 72-year-old man’s suspicion that two men were illegally crabbing near Cavalero Road and Simonson Place on Dec. 27. Deputies confronted the two men, ages 47 and 55, who displayed their licenses cooperatively and returned their catch to the sea. The men said they thought the season was open.
• On Jan. 1, deputies responded to a call in the 2100 block of Highland Drive that an 18-year-old woman might have alcohol poisoning. Deputies assisted the woman and cited two others, a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, with furnishing the alcohol.
• On Dec. 30, deputies discovered a one-vehicle rollover accident in the 3000 block of South Camano Drive. There was a beer in the gray 1996 Plymouth Breeze, but no driver. Deputies didn’t locate the driver near the scene.
• Deputies discovered the scene of a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of SR 532 and N. Sunrise Boulevard on Jan. 3. Beer cans and one bottle of Crown Royal were near the 1997 Ford Explorer, but no driver.
• Deputies found a white 1983 Chevrolet Caprice abandoned near the intersection of East Camano Hill Road and North East Camano Drive on Jan. 4.
• A 51-year-old man reported the door to his vacation home in the 3100 block of Shoreline Road had been forced open on Jan. 2. Nothing was missing.
• On Jan. 1, deputies assisted the Stanwood Police Department with an intoxicated 19-year-old man who was resisting arrest on NE Camano Drive. Officers where attempting to take the man into custody in connection with charges of felony, malicious mischief.
• Deputies stopped a 28-year-old man near the intersection of SR 532 and N. East Camano Drive for speeding. During the traffic stop, which took place on Dec. 25, the man was cited in connection with driving with license suspended, third-degree.
• A collision was reported on Jan. 3, in the 600 block of N. East Camano Drive, by a 35-year-old woman. A 23-year-old woman, driving a 2004 Kia Rio, struck the back of an 83-year-old man’s 1999 Chevrolet Suburban when he slowed suddenly. The woman was issued a citation for following too closely.
