Island County seeks volunteers for boards
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to serve on several different boards and commissions:
• Conservation Futures
Citizens Advisory Board
Island County needs to fill several positions on the Conservation Futures Citizen’s Advisory Board, including two members from Camano Island. CAB reviews and evaluates applications to acquire open space, wetlands, habitat, agriculture and timberlands for public use and enjoyment as a tool for salmon preservation.
• Northwest Workforce
Development Council
Council members serve two- or three-year terms, which may be renewed by mutual agreement. Washington state is divided into 12 service delivery areas (SDA), and Island County’s SDA consists of the four counties of Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island. Island County’s representation includes three members from the private sector, one from K-12 local education and one representing the community. Two positions are vacant, one from the private/ business sector, which is a three year term to expire July 27, 2012 and the other is from the local K-12 education field with a term to expire July 27, 2011. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 22.
• Island County Affordable
Housing Advisory
Board
One applicant is needed for a three-year term to expire June 16, 2012 and the other position is to fill a vacated position to expire June 16, 2011. Applicants must represent the affordable housing construction industry, commercial real estate financing, property management companies or agencies that serve low-income households.
Housing Advisory Board members serve three-year terms, which may be renewed by mutual agreement. The Housing Advisory Board is made up of 10-12 members, consisting of each of the mayors or their designee.
The Housing Advisory Board establishes an application process and “use and allocation” recommendations for disbursing Island County Low-Income Housing Surcharge Fund, created and authorized by Resolution C-48-02 on June 10, 2002.
Applications for the above three positions are due by 4:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25.
• Applicants are also needed to fill a vacancy on the Civil Service Commission, which meets the second Thursday of each month, 9:30 a.m., in the hearing room in Coupeville.. The commission consists of three members plus a secretary/ chief examiner. Duties and responsibilities of the commission may be found in Chapter 2.12 of the Island County Code and RCW 41.14.060. Members must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Island County for at least two years immediately preceding appointment, and a registered voter in Island County.
Applications for this commission are due Feb. 5.
