Winter Walk to Elger Bay Preserve

Join with Friends of Camano Island Parks as they host a new year Winter Walk Sat., Jan. 2 on the Elger Bay Preserve trails. Meet at the junction of Dry-Lake Road and Elger Bay Road just north of the Elger Bay Elementary School and Elger Bay store. This is a fairly level trail with one 50 foot gain toward the middle of the walk. The beautifully-signed Nature Trail section with a side trip to the beaver marsh platform, is part of the walk. The walk is a 2.5 miles round trip. The guided walk takes place rain or shine, but cancelled for high winds or snow. Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothes for the weather. The pace is moderate and the walk is completed by noon. Bring family and friends. ‘Perspective on Christian movement’

Camano Chapel will be hosting a 15-week class called “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” Sundays beginning Jan. 10. Objective of the course is to understand what Christians have, and are doing ,across the world to spread the message of hope and how each person can participate. Classes are 3 – 6 p.m. at Camano Chapel, 867 S. West Camano Dr. Registration deadline is Jan. 10; a discount is offered if you register before Dec. 31. Updating Relay for Life plans

Committee chairpersons are meeting already to plan for the upcoming Stanwood/Camano Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society in May. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting scheduled for Tues., Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m. in the Red Barn at the Stanwood Fairgrounds. Event co-chairs are Sue Thees and Kerri Feay. “Lots of volunteers are needed to help make this event the tremendous success it has been in the past,” they said.

FOCIP work party at state parks

Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island State Park and Cama Beach State Park next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues., Jan. 5 at the Camano Island State Park ranger station. Bring lunch; beverage and dessert provided. The CISP signage project will continue as well as other park projects. Newcomers are welcome to join FOCIP in work party efforts to improve Camano Island parks. Brindles Marketplace has new hours

Tuesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. are the new hours for Brindles Marketplace starting in the new year. Winner of the gift basket was Larry Weston. Begin the new year with dance classes

Dance classes at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Rd. begin next week, call 387-0222. East coast swing: (family) Sundays Jan. 10 - Feb. 14, 4 to 5 p.m. West coast swing: (6th thru 12th grade), same dates, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Waltz: (adults) Mondays Jan. 11 - Feb. 15 – 7 to 8:30 p.m. Beginner class designed to teach the basics. Early signup for junior high retreat

Country Club Women host speaker

The C.C.C. Women’s Club will hold their meeting, program and luncheon Mon., Jan. 11, 10 a.m. Men are invited to attend, sign-up in entry hall. Guest speaker is Bill Garrison, who will show photos and speak on the development of the Camano Country Club. Debbie Christopher will cater. Bridge, by reservation only, will follow at 12:30 p.m.

Dog training classes start in new year

Put your pup on the path to great “pawsibilities” with Cloud’s Canine positive and progressive training classes for puppies to adult dogs. New classes begin Mon., Jan. 4 at the Camano Senior and Community Center. Each class is six weeks, with one-hour group lessons that are limited in size. Training for water leak detection

Evergreen Rural Water and Whidbey Island Water Systems Association will co-sponsor a training class on water leak detection and fire hydrant maintenance Fri., Jan. 15, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Coupeville Rec. Hall, 901 Alexander St., Coupeville Washington. There will be 0.7 CEU’S awarded for certificated operators. Lunch and refreshments provided in the cost.
