WSDOT breaks for holiday

By JEREMIAH O’HAGAN Staff Reporter

In response to readers’ requests, the NEWS will run weekly updates on the General Mark Clark Bridge project on Camano Island and the SR532 corridor project in Stanwood.

The first seven girders, and the largest, have been set in place atop the columns of the new Mark Clark Bridge.

Last week, crews trucked the pieces up from Tacoma and installed them on the nights of Dec. 21-23 and 28.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews also wrapped up work on the Hanstad Road and SR 532 intersection.

Crews will now be preparing for construction on the section of SR 532 running through downtown Stanwood. The work itself, taking place between the SR 532 viaduct bridge and the Mark Clark Bridge, will begin this spring. For now, crews will be working to relocate utilities.

In consideration of the holidays, WSDOT will break from all work requiring lane closures from noon on Dec. 24, until noon on Monday, Dec. 28. They will also be off the road from noon on Dec. 31, until noon on Monday, Jan. 4.

Visit www.wsdot. wa.gov/Northwest/Snohomish/ Construction for specific lane closure information, or www.wsdot. wa.gov/projects/sr532 for general project information.
