Name a fence picket for $35
The Stanwood-Camano Rotary Club donated $50,000 toward the proposed playground at Freedom Park, earning the title of lead sponsor and nudging the playground to nearly half its fundraising goal of $200,000.
Their donation also earned them recognition in the playground’s name:

deputies on Camano Island
responded to the following
recently:
• On Dec. 18, a 59-yearold woman reported the door to a vacant home in the 200 block of Driftwood Shores was ajar. Deputies also discovered a broken window lock and a safe that had been pried open. It was unclear whether anything was missing. Full Story
Island County Board of Heath hikes fees
Island County Board of Health voted last Monday to raise all Department of Environmental Health fees by 4 percent and add a 3 percent technology fee.
Only septic-related fees were spared. The on-site septic inspection fee will remain at $62, the price of the Septic 201 class is still $25 and instructional video $5. Full Story
Merringer named court administrator of state
Michael M. Merringer was named Island County Superior Court administrator for the state of Washington last week.
The award was presented at a joint Board for Judicial Administration and Court Management Council (CMC) meeting.
The council represents all levels of court administrations from the Supreme Court down to municipal courts. Full Story
Lights, sirens and Santa
Camano Island Fire and Rescue recently decorated their engine and raced to the neighborhoods on west Camano, distributing treats and small gifts in their annual Santa Run.
Levon Yengoyan, assistant chief of Camano Island Fire and Rescue, pointed out that service doesn’t always need to be in response to an emergency. Full Story
