In a whirlwind of budget drafts, funding cuts, tax increases and proposed layoffs, Island County Commissioners are in the infant stages of considering an additional item:
A clean water utility fee.
The possible fee addresses concerns in Island County such as drainage problems, contamination of drinking water, and the need to monitor water levels. Full Story
Commissioners rescind sheriff’s right to absorb EMS
Island County commissioners Angie Homola and Helen Price-Johnson voted Monday to remove Emergency Management Services (EMS) from within the sheriff’s office.

Island County commissioners approve three property tax levies
Island County commissioners approved a 1 percent increase to three property tax levies last Monday: current expense, roads, and conservation futures.
In addition, they employed banked capacity to further increase the county current expense levy and the roads’ levy totals by nearly $67,000 and $270,000.
Totaled, the increases will garner $488,827 revenue next year. Full Story
