Commissioners seeking applicants
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking two applicants to serve on the planning commission. One must be from County Commissioner District 3 (Camano and North Whidbey) and one from Dist. 1(south and central Whidbey). Terms will run until Jan. 2, 2014. Commissioners appoint members for four-year terms, which may be renewed by mutual agreement. The commission consists of nine members, three from each commissioner district, to assure county-wide representation. The commission meets the second and fourth Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse Annex Hearing Room, Coupeville. Service is unpaid, however, members may obtain reimbursement for travel expenses to and from meetings. Complete dinner for church attendees
Anyone coming to the River of Life Community Church services Sun., Dec. 20, 10 a.m., will receive a Christmas dinner to take home and cook. Men’s chorus presents seasonal songs
The Norwegian Men’s Chorus of Skagit Valley (Skagit Valley Mannskor) will present a pre-Christmas concert of Norwegian and American seasonal songs and carols at Camano Lutheran Church, Sat., Dec. 19, 3 p.m. The event is free, and cookies and coffee will be served following the concert. Black and White Ball Grange style
Fri., Dec. 18 is the time for the third Friday of the month “Dancin’ at the Grange,” and the theme is “Black and White Ball, Grange style.” “Come in fancy dress clothes or comfy (black?) jeans and a t-shirt,” say organizers. Christmas house lights contest
The Lassies Golf Club will sponsor a contest to judge Christmas house lights in the four divisions within Camaloch Dec. 16. Winner in each division will be awarded a cash prize, with the money then sent to the Stanwood/Camano Food Bank in each winner’s name.
