RAYMOND A. SKRINDE

MARCH 11, 1919 - DEC. 7, 2009

Raymond A. Skrinde, 90, died peacefully Dec. 7, 2009 in Stanwood, the same town where he was born March 11, 1919.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty, his children Marilyn (Steven) Gemane, Richard (Rita), James and Kristine, by his brothers Erling, Einar and Rolf (Marge), and his sisters Elsie Hemstrom and Anna (Bill) Bowron.

Ray Skrinde graduated valedictorian from Stanwood High School, obtained his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Washington State University and a master’s degree in hydraulic engineering from the University of Iowa.

He bravely served his country as a lieutenant with the 110th Combat Engineers in the 7th Infantry Division where he fought in the South Pacific for three years during World War II. He retired from the US Army as a lieutenant colonel.

After more than 30 years with the Seattle district of the US Army Corps of Engineers, he retired to his beloved McKee’s Beach home in south Stanwood. He greatly enjoyed retired life, wintering in Arizona.

He was a renowned salmon fisherman, a strong supporter of his local chapter of the Sons of Norway and Kiwanis, as well as Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Stanwood.

A memorial service begins 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Remembrances may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or to the Stanwood Food Bank.
