Outstanding support

Holiday home tour a big success

Dear Editor:

Camano Island Democrats’ Holiday Home Tour on Dec. 5 was an outstanding success thanks to you, the Stanwood/Camano community.

Our annual home tour is a fundraiser to support local youth, and while the final figures are not in as yet, it looks as though we will be able to duplicate, or exceed, last year’s scholarship level by providing at least two $1,000 scholarships: One for a student going into a vocational field and one for a student entering public service.

We are especially proud of the non-partisan nature of these scholarships, as students’ political views are not considered in our choice. Likewise, the home tour and good-time party are an example of a community coming together to support its youth, regardless of politics.

Many community businesses donated raffle and auction items.

Snow Goose Bookstore, Camano Island Coffee Roasters and Seagrass Gallery all helped by selling tickets.

Theresa Metzger and the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation offer valuable administrative support.

Many thanks to the community for investing in our youth.
