Food drive

Two buses filled for food bank

Dear Editor:

The Stanwood-Camano School District Transportation Department asked our community to help fill a bus with food for the Stanwood- Camano Food Bank and we are pleased and very humbled to share with you that because of the hospitality and generosity of this community, we not only met the goal, but we filled two buses! Count ‘em, two buses — filled with 4,720 pounds of food as well as $1,742.50 in cash donations — all for the food bank.

We thank everyone in the community for their donations.

Stanwood and Camano Island are little towns with big hearts.

Numerous people pulled together to make this a successful event. We want to thank our gracious hosts for providing the space and hospitality: Stanwood Haggen Food and Pharmacy, QFC and the Camano Island IGA.

This would not have happened without their generous support.

We salute our friends at Utsalady Elementary School and Port Susan Middle School for the incredible artistic banners that adorned our buses – absolutely awesome!

How do you weigh a bus loaded full of donations? You use the scales at Twin City Foods. In addition to the use of the scales, we appreciate the packing boxes as well.

When we ran out of boxes, Stanwood Hardware loaned the totes needed to transport the donations.

I would like to extend a huge heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of the transportation team who helped put wheels on this idea. And to those who braved the freezing temperatures on Saturday manning the buses, it may have been cold, but like everything else in life, you all made it fun.

Thank you. Debbie Saylor Stanwood
