Local firefighter deemed “most inspirational”

By JEREMIAH O’HAGAN Staff Reporter

Ryan White, of Stanwood Camano Fire Department, was recently awarded “Most Inspirational” in a Seattle Medic One program.

White graduated from the 2009 Medic One program at Harborview Medical Center in August.

The program admits only 16 students at a time, and only through sponsorship by a regional emergency medical services (EMS) employer.

In addition to that opportunity, White and one other student, Neil Kelly, were the first to ever receive the “Most Inspirational” award in memory of late Seattle Fire Chief Jack N. Richards, who passed away March 2008.

The award, which comes with a $750 scholarship, was announced by Michael Copass, M.D., and presented by Richards’ wife and daughter.

White is a nationally certified paramedic and has been with the Stanwood- Camano Fire Department for three years.
