Two buses full of groceries stock the shelves for many
It’s that time of the year again, a time when we are faced with the reality of the need in the world – especially in our own community.
Thanks to the bell ringers at every mall and department store we are reminded not everyone has the luxury of walking through the doors and purchasing gifts for loved ones – let alone the groceries they need.
So, when school district employees asked the community to fill a bus, residents here responded in a big way, then doubled their efforts by filling up two! Volunteers report people took a list of the items requested in front of area grocery stores and returned with every single item to help those less fortunate than themselves.
What’s impressive, is most people typically doing fine financially are stretched to the limit during the holidays, yet somehow people manage to dig deeper into their pockets and come up with enough extra to help out others.
The “Fill a Bus for the Food Bank” campaign was only one of the many food drives that benefit the Stanwood/Camano Food Bank during the holidays. But it’s that generosity that sustains a lifeline and assists in keeping the breadbaskets full for so many in our community well into the new year.
