Pearl Harbor survivors commemorate the Day of Infamy
St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church held its annual Pearl Harbor Day commemoration last Monday.
Six survivors were present, including Rose Biggertaff, the area’s oldest Pearl Harbor survivor at 93 years old.
Harold Schimer, 90 years old, served on cruiser U.S.S. Helena. Schimer proudly fits into his uniform of 68 years ago, although he says he weighs a bit less now.
Veteran Cecil Calavan spoke, reminding Americans to remain alert, and Senator Mary Margaret Haugen (D-Camano Island) praised the men and women who are “still the greatest generation.”
