Local man defrauded of $39,600 in wire transfer

Island County Sheriff’s deputies on Camano Island responded to the following recently:

• A 60-year-old man reported on Dec. 7 that he had been defrauded of $39,600. He wired the funds to 1st National Bank in Pennsylvania as initial payment for a commercial packaging machine for the mailing industry. He discovered his contact didn’t own the machine and had no connection to it.

• On Dec. 3, an employee of Camaloch Golf Course reported the break room had been broken into. Access was gained through the window, and partially consumed food and condiments were on the table. Deputies also found beer cans and an open bag of coffee on the property. A second outbuilding’s window was also broken, but no access gained.

• On Dec. 4, a black Ford Explorer was stopped at W. North Camano Drive and James Way. The driver, a 19-year-old man, was cited in connection with driving with license suspended and possession of marijuana, 40 grams or less.

• A possibly impaired driver was reported on Dec. 2. Deputies stopped the maroon 1995 Honda Accord stationwagon at E. Cross Island Road and N. East Camano Drive. The driver was cited in connection with DUI.

• A 54-year-old woman in a red 2006 PT Cruisr was stopped at S. East Camano Drive and Cavalero Road for driving erratically on Dec. 10. She was cited in connection with DUI and possession of marijuana, 40 grams or less.
