Dry summer named disaster by USDA
Snohomish County farms are eligible for federal financial assistance since the U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated six counties in the state as a primary natural disaster area due to losses caused by drought this year.
The 12 contiguous counties, including Snohomish County, are also eligible for assistance. Full Story
A new path in memory of Shirley Cleveland
A memorial to Shirley Cleveland, a new walking trail has been completed in the neighborhood of Utsalady Heights.
Located at the corner of Marshal Drive and Grennan Place on the north end of Camano Island, the new trail is a privately-funded gift to the community in memory of the long-time resident of Camano Island who passed away last Christmas. Full Story

Pearl Harbor survivors commemorate the Day of Infamy
St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church held its annual Pearl Harbor Day commemoration last Monday.
Six survivors were present, including Rose Biggertaff, the area’s oldest Pearl Harbor survivor at 93 years old.
Harold Schimer, 90 years old, served on cruiser U.S.S. Helena. Schimer proudly fits into his uniform of 68 years ago, although he says he weighs a bit less now. Full Story
Grants available for volunteer projects that benefit fish and wildlife
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is accepting grant applications from individuals and groups seeking financial support for volunteer projects that benefit fish and wildlife.
