Effective Jan. 1, the Island County Camano Annex will be closed to the public on Fridays.
Special appointments may be made when necessary, but the bulk of activity will happen Monday through Thursday. Full Story
After 11 years, Councilwoman Shelley Klasse moves on
After 11 years of dedicated service to her city, Councilwoman Shelley Klasse is moving on.
Klasse announced her resignation earlier this year and expressed a desire to spend more time with family.
Klasse also said it’s time to give other people an opportunity to serve the community. Full Story
Drug raid at high school results in referrals
Stanwood Police reported
to the following calls recently.
• Drug paraphernalia and a knife were found Nov. 30 on a subject in the 7600 block of 272nd Street NW.
•A 16-year-old Stanwood male in the 7400 block of 272nd Street NW was referred Dec. 1 for possession of drug paraphernalia. Full Story

School board members remain in same seats
Nobody had to change seats as a bit of housekeeping took place during last Monday’s Stanwood-Camano School Board meeting.
Superintendent Jean Shumate, Ed.D., swore in directors Roger Myers and Patrick Patterson to the board for another four years.
Myers was nominated by Director Darlene Hartley to act as president. A unanimous vote in favor resulted. Full Story

Passenger in fatal crash not from Stanwood
The passenger inside the Ford Explorer involved in the fatal Highway 9 crash last Sunday was misidentified as being from Stanwood on the initial Washington State Patrol (WSP) collision report.
John P. Ladue, 32, is from Snohomish rather than Stanwood, said Trooper Keith Leary, public information officer for WSP. Full Story
House sustains heavy damage in fire, most contents saved
District 14 put the flames down quickly, and most contents were saved, but heavy structural damage means renters in the 27900 block of 28th Avenue N.W. are out of a home.
North County Fire/ EMS responded to the call Thursday night. A chimney fire had spread to the attic of a modular home, which was aflame, said Christian Davis, battalion chief. Full Story
H1N1-related deaths inspire more vaccinations
After five Snohomish County residents were reported dead as a result of H1N1, people at high risk of flu complications are urged to get H1N1 vaccine from private providers, pharmacies or public health districts.
The Snohomish Health District announced last week that five people died from complications of H1N1 influenza (swine flu). Full Story
