PHOTO BY ADAM STEWART | STANWOOD/CAMANO NEWS From the kindergarten group’s rendition of “You are My Sunshine” to the picture slideshow composed by fifth graders, tissues were raised to spectators’ eyes on more than one occasion as Cedarhome Elementary students assembled on Wednesday to honor their grandparents through song, poetry and storytelling.

Grandparents Day is a favorite among students, said Principal Jeff Lofgren.

“On this day, we celebrate the special service you provide for your family,” he said.

Each grade performed a tribute to their grandparents for several hundred audience members.

The celebration was filled with the exchange of waves between adoring students and proud grandparents.

Laughter filled the gymnasium as representatives of the fourth grade classes delivered descriptions of memorable family moments. Tales of staying up too late watching television, eating sugary sweets slipped from bottomless pockets and the timely dropping of false teeth at the dinner table brought on chuckles and playful finger pointing.

After the performances, grandparents and friends accompanied students to their classrooms for refreshments and activities.
