Commissioners interview three clerk candidates
Island County Board of Commissioners will interview three applicants for the county clerk position in a special session Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. Sharon Franzen, who is retiring Dec. 15 to spend more time with family, is the current county clerk. She has worked in the clerk’s office since 1980, and was elected County Clerk in 2002. Full Story

Help plan Island County’s future on commission
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking two applicants to serve on the Island County Planning Commission.
One must be from County Commissioner District 3 (Camano & North Whidbey) and the other from County Commissioner District 1 (South & Central Whidbey).

Island County to benefit from federal grant for food, nutrition
Low-income residents in Island County will benefit from a federal grant to increase low-income residents’ participation in food and nutrition assistance programs, along with Kittitas, Mason and Garfield counties. Full Story
Rebates, loans for ductless heat pumps
Residents can stay warm this winter while saving money, thanks to Snohomish County PUD’s $1,200 rebate and an optional $3,500 low-interest loan for customers with electrically heated homes who sign up for the program before Dec. 31, 2009.
Ductless systems heat and cool homes at a fraction of the cost of baseboards and wall heaters and don’t require invasive ductwork. Full Story
