Man goes on rampage at Forest Land Services
When officers arrived at Forest Land Services at 3:15 a.m. Friday they found the gates secured as normal. What they heard, though, was not normal.
“Deputies could hear heavy equipment and crashing,” said Stanwood Police Chief Ty Trenary. “They discovered a male suspect had gotten in an excavator and had just torn the place apart with it.” Full Story
Burglar suspect turns into victim, shot in back
The body of Ryan A. Rzechula, 25, of Stanwood, was discovered late Wednesday morning in rural Arlington.
He died of a gunshot wound to the back, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
His death, investigated as a homicide, led to the arrest of Keira S. Earhart, 38, of Arlington. Full Story

Michael Worley of Camano Island and his accomplice, Donald Pepin of Jupiter, Fla., were indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Seattle for stealing and trafficking human insulin and diabetic supplies, retail value $1.2 million. Full Story
Man killed by falling tree
A 24-year-old Sedro- Woolley man died Thursday when a tree he was chopping down fell on him. The incident was reported about 1:40 p.m. in the 7500 block of Silvana Terrace Road in unincorporated Stanwood.
The man, reportedly employed as a private contractor with a logging and tree service company, was doing storm clean up work in a heavily wooded area on private property. Full Story

Proposed tax increases for property and emergency medical services were approved by Stanwood City Council during a public hearing last Thursday.
The increases are in response to a six-year temporary levy lid lift expiring Dec. 31, leaving the city’s revenue $350,000 short for the projected 2010 budget. Full Story
