School board postpones facility update process
The board of directors for the Stanwood-Camano School District had to make a difficult decision last Tuesday regarding “urgent facility needs” as compiled by the Facility Advisory Committee (FAC) for Twin City Elementary, Stanwood Elementary, Port Susan Middle School, Stanwood Middle School and Stanwood High School. Amtrak Cascades stops in Stanwood
In the Saturday morning cold, amidst cheers, flashing cameras and at least one miniature American flag, Island County Commissioner John Dean, Stanwood Mayor Dianne White and Senator Mary Margaret Haugen (D-Wash.) stepped off the first train to Stanwood Station in 38 years.

Balancing the city’s budget
By the end of Thursday’s budget workshop, Stanwood City Council had balanced the budget, but it cost them $200,816 in cash reserves.
“Almost every city in the state is (using reserves),” said Mayor Dianne White, “and we’ve been trying not to.” Full Story

Martha Rose, director of Island Transit, called last Monday to see if it was too late to get a message in the NEWS.
She said that buses would be shuttling passengers from Terry’s Corner on Camano Island to Everett Station so community members could ride into history aboard Amtrak Cascades for its stop at Stanwood Station’s grand opening. Full Story

TREML DEC. 20, 1937 - NOV. 5, 2009
George Daniel Treml, 71, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 5, 2009.
George was born Dec. 20, 1937 to George Joseph Treml and Elsie Marie (Nelson) Treml in Billings, Mont.
The family resided in Fromberg, Mont., where George was active in 4-H, FFA, basketball and football. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dad. Full Story
MAEBETH K. (CLOGSTON) SCHLEITWEILER
APRIL 20, 1921 — NOV. 23, 2009
Maebeth K. (Clogston) Schleitweiler was born on April 20,1921 in Selleck, Wash., and resided at Camaloch for the past 27 years.
She was preceded in death by her son David and her high school sweetheart Trevor Schleitweiler. She is survived by her grandson Duane and great granddaughter Amanda. Full Story
