Girls swim in state competition

Whitney Weinert (above) earned her third letter after helping the SHS girls’ swim team post the best regular-season record in school history this fall (9-3). The junior represented Stanwood High in the 100 backstroke and was a member of the 200 medley relay team at state. Alisa Stang, Whitney Weinert, Christina Garrett and Zanetta Uy all participated in last weekend’s state swim meet held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Stang, a junior, came home with a 16th place in the 100 butterfly. Weinert and the other two Lady Spartans, who with Stang competed as a 200-medley relay quartet, didn’t qualify for the Saturday finals. Weinert also swam the 100 backstroke during the competition. Two other Stanwood High swimmers, Kenzie Bell and Maddie Divelbiss, joined the group as alternates. No other details were made available to the NEWS.
