Scammer attempting to sell subscriptions to the NEWS

In an apparent scam attempt, a woman, claiming to be from the Stanwood/Camano NEWS is calling current subscribers offering a half-price subscription rate. Her gimmick involves telling victims that the current rate of $260 per year has been reduced to $129 for five days only. The subscriber is told they can only extend their subscription at this low rate with a credit card or with bank account information.  

Please don’t give out any personal information to any caller claiming to be from the NEWS. The regular subscription rate to receive the NEWS is $33, and a new-subscriber coupon is currently being offered at 50 percent off, $16.50.

No one from the NEWS office will be making any calls to promote this special.

The public is encouraged to call the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over your area if a call is received.
