WSDOT work crews compete with weather
By JEREMIAH O’HAGAN Staff Reporter
In response to readers’
requests, the
NEWS will run weekly updates on
the General Mark Clark
Bridge project on Camano
Island and the SR532 corridor
project in Stanwood.
Stripping crews continue playing second fiddle to the weather in their efforts to stripe newly completed sections of roadway east of Stanwood and on Camano Island, so lane closures are again uncertain this week.
Last week crews striped and opened a two-way left-turn lane near Good Road on Camano Island. This new turn lane means the acceleration lane for drivers entering SR532 from Good Road has been moved over from its original location.
New stripping has been added to guide drivers in this change, but Washington State Department of Transportation officials urge caution until everyone gets more comfortable with the change.
Meanwhile, crews continue to pour columns that will support the new General Mark Clark Bridge deck. They’ve moved to the west side of the bridge, and have also begun work on the horizontal pier caps that will span and connect each pair of columns. This system will eventually support girders for the new bridge.
