A live and silent art auction will start off the 14th annual Camano Island Chamber of Commerce Chili Chowder Cook-Off this Sat., Nov. 14, 1 - 3 p.m., at Camano Island Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. The auction benefits the Camano Island Chamber of Commerce and Freedom Park. Artists from the Camano Arts Association have donated over $12,000 worth of fine art, paintings, giclee prints, jewelry, woven art and ceramics. The Chili Chowder Cook-Off will follow, 3 - 7 p.m.
Brownie, cookies sales benefit animals

Learn about winter habitat garden
Learn how your landscape can provide sustenance for wildlife even in winter months, at 7 p.m. Wed., Nov. 18, Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Dr. (blue building by tennis courts). John Christianson, Christianson’s Nursery, will share examples of the types of plants that provide food or other elements birds and other critters can use. Also learn what fall-winter maintenance techniques will be most beneficial for maintaining habitat and providing a garden of continued interest for the homeowner. This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project. Lost Lake bazaar features gift items
The 23rd annual Lost Lake bazaar will be Sat., Nov. 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1469 Lake Dr. on Camano Island. “Very nice” handcrafted items are for sale along with baked goods, homemade chili and 20 raffle prizes. For more information, call Billy or Chris Davis, 387-8275.

Marcia Kester will be performing at Brindles Marketplace Sat., Nov. 14, 1 to 4 p.m., 848 N. Sunrise Blvd. There are now almost 70 vendors for those shopping for food items from jellies to fish, mustard to chocolates; coats and sweaters to photography, antiques to organic produce. Line dancing at the Camano Country Club, 1243 Beach Dr., begins tomorrow, Nov. 11 for five weeks, or Nov. 18 for four weeks, at 7:35 p.m.
Jones to talk about Democrat history
Floyd Jones, a longtime Camano Island resident, a major philanthropist, and a supporter of progressive political candidates and organizations, will speak about the history of the Democratic Party since 1927, Wed., Nov. 11, 7 p.m. at the Camano Multipurpose Building (the blue building), 141 East Camano. He will also talk about philanthropy. His motto is “When you give, you gain.” There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion. Everyone is welcome.

Christmas holiday house now open
With more than 65 vendors displaying their wares at Brindles Marketplace, the Christmas holiday house opened this week; hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Some of the produce includes winter veggies; there are jams, jellies, sauces; breads, cheese, fish, chocolates, honey, fruit snacks; books, childrens and adults; alpaca coats, sweaters and baby bears; and, a number of antique vendors. H oliday home tour includes five homes
Sat., Dec. 5, 1:30 to 5 p.m., the public is invited to tour five beautiful Island homes. Tickets will be for both the tour and the party following at Oddfellows Hall, 96 S. Camano Ridge Rd.
