Residents in the Lake Ketchum area took to the streets on Halloween without their usual costumes and bags of candy.
The festivities came to a halt early in the evening as neighbors responded to a homeowner’s suspicious circumstances resulting from an apparent home invasion.
According to witness reports, at least two break-ins were foiled by the quick action of neighbors and local law enforcement.
In one incident, individuals were apprehended inside a house.
Another incident involved a group of residents chasing individuals off private property into Lake Ketchum.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office confirmed four arrests in the Lake Ketchum area on Oct. 31.
“This is a group of people that are just not going to take it anymore,” said one area resident.
The community has been on their toes for several months, cit- ed another resident. “This neighborhood is fed up, we are on the watch.”
The immediate action of the people in the neighborhood, including 9-1-1 calls, aided law enforcement in the apprehension of suspects.
“Everything came together,” said a resident. “The community responded and police arrived within five minutes to handle the situation.”
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office conducts a Neighborhood Watch orientation every month at each precinct location. Last Thursday, approximately 26 people, 10 from the Lake Ketchum area, attended the meeting at the North Precinct in Marysville to discuss concerns and review tips for reducing crime in neighborhoods.
An official Neighborhood Watch for the Lake Ketchum area is being formed. A tentative meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18. Look for details in the next issue of the NEWS.
