State lawmaker Barbara Bailey invites people to share their views in informal settings when she holds “coffee talks” throughout her communities Nov. 23 and 24. Pastor Brekhus leads Freeborn worship

Pastor Donald Brekhus, former pastor of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Stanwood, will be leading Freeborn Lutheran Church worship services Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. The church is located east of I-5, exit 215 and turn right up the hill on 300th; the church will be on the right. “The public is invited to join us for worship,” says Pastor Brekhus. “A special invitation to visitors, seekers and former members.”

Democrats discuss election results

Stanwood Democrats will meet Sat., Nov. 14, 10 a.m. at rhe Viking Restaurant in Stanwood. The November election results and current events will be discussed, as well as the topic, “what we can do to promote health care?” All suggestions are welcome. Everyone is invited to come early, participate and have a no-host breakfast and coffee. The meeting usually lasts an hour. For future information, call Carol, 629-2037.

Bank drive to benefit food bank

Coastal Community Bank will be hosting a food drive to benefit the Stanwood Camano Food Bank. Both branches will be collecting non-perishable foods Nov. 16 – Dec. 23. The food bank is also in need of toiletry items, including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo. Community members can also contribute with check or cash donations at Coastal Community Bank, which will deliver the donations directly to the food bank. Branches are located in Stanwood at 9810 SR 532 next to Scandia Bakery, and on Camano at 818 N Sunrise Blvd. inside the Windermere Real Estate office at Terry’s Corner. With the current economic situation, the food bank is seeing higher demands for their services. Year to date through October, the local food bank has served 3,730 families and close to 13,000 individuals.

North County Fire Dist. budget meetings

North County Fire/EMS budget meetings are scheduled Wed., Nov. 11, 3:30 p.m. at the Kackamn Road Fire Station, 3002 252nd N.E., and the same time Wed., Nov. 25 at the Warm Beach Fire Station, 19727 Marine Dr., south of Stanwood. For more information, call 652-1246 or northcountyfireems.com.

Dinner, dance at Floyd Norgaard Center

Josephine’s Christmas Bazaar –Friday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Items for sale include jewelry, scarves, handknit sweaters, ceramics and fused glass objects. Lunch will be available as well as a bake sale.

Winter coat collection for less fortunate

Z’s, All Things Good, 9504 271st St. in Stanwood, is collecting coats, adult new and used, both men and women’s for this winter. Please drop off anything you have during 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mon - Friday. For details, call 629-5040.

Haggen conducting food drive this week

A food drive to help the hungry in Snohomish County will be conducted Nov. 9-18 at Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores. The Stanwood store is located in the Stanwood/Camano Village, Food banks are seeking canned food high in protein, canned fruit and any other non-perishable food items. Donors also may purchase pre-stuffed bags of groceries that include rice, pasta and soup for $5 at Haggen stores. All of the donated food will be distributed by local food banks.

Centennial Trail Coalition meeting

The fall general meeting of the Centennial Trail coalition of Snohomish County will be held Mon., Nov. 16, 7 p.m. at the city of Arlington’s Community Room, Hadley Hall, adjacent to the Arlington Boys’ and Girls’ Club, 18513 59th Avenue N.E., Arlington.

Holiday food drive continues to Dec. 31

Restoration Dental will gift $10 to the local food bank, or nonprofit dental van at the Stanwood Resource Center, for every canned food donation received by the end of the year at the office of Scott VonBergen, DDS during their holiday food drive. For more information, call 629-7645.

CARE to host amendment discussion

Camano Action for A Rural Environment will have a 7 p.m. meeting Thurs., Nov. 19, at the Terry’s Corner Windemere office, corner of Sunrise and SR 532/East Camano Drive. Topics of discussion include the upcoming Island County Comprehensive Plan amendments for shorelines and streams, water quality and distribution on the island, and next year’s Taste of Camano event. FOCIP works at Dry Lake, senior center

Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at the Dry Lake Project and the Camano Senior and Community Center next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues., Nov. 17, at the Camano Island State Park ranger station or at the senior center. Bring lunch; beverage and dessert provided. Newcomers are welcome to join FOCIP in work party efforts to improve Camano Island parks. More auction items for Murphy benefit

More live auction items have come in for the Nov. 14 soup/salad feast that will benefit Matt Murphy, a soldier who lost his leg in Afghanistan. Saturdays’ hours are 4 to 8 p.m., live auction, 6:30 – 8 p.m., open to the public. Includes raffle. The most recent donation for the auction is a sailboat trip to Roche Harbour through the San Juans next summer; other items include dinner at a resort hotel, motorcycle rental, a new microwave, hair salon appointment, jewelry, dog grooming, etc.

Eagles to host Thanksgiving dinner

The Stanwood Eagles, 6419 Pioneer Highway, will serve a Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 26, 2 to 6 p.m. at their hall located near the fairgrounds. Members and guests. For more information, call 629-3224.

NAMI-Northsound has Monday meet

Deadline for 2010 fair t-shirt design
