Winners of AAUW art show
Dear Editor:
The recent AAUW Art for Education Show at the Bonnie S. Cole building at the fairgrounds was a resounding success for its 28th consecutive year.
Our new venue was a fabulous place to host this widely attended community event, and while the final financials are still being worked, we are very excited about the success of this year’s show.
AAUW’s hosting and percentage of profits from this show provides us with the scholarship monies we award each year to local high school graduates entering their third and higher levels of college.
(For future reference, SCAF administers the application process).
We are always pleased to offer regional artists this juried avenue to exhibit and sell their pieces and this year, we recruited new 3-D artists as well.
The independent judge’s selections for Best of Show in 3D were awarded to artists new to us: Alison Hoaglund and Mark Lowe.
Honorable mentions in 3D were given to Persis the Potter, Marie-Claire Dole, Jane Fleshman, Lucinda Van Valkenburg, Yonnah Ben Levy and Dan Bergsma.
The 2-D Best of Show recognitions went to Jillian Mattison and Molly LeMaster. Honorable mentions in 2-D were given to James L. Davis, Jennifer Bowman, Candi Martin Baker, James M. Shipley, A. Eagleson Link and LeElla Day.
We offer our congratulations to all of them for their awards, and extend our warmest appreciation to all of our uniquely talented artist participants.
Our AAUW members all strongly share the goal of investing in our community through the students we are able to financially assist as they complete their college education. This is a special thank you to the readers and area citizens who attended the art show, made donations and purchased art at the 2009 show.
