Henderson helps community focus on our roots

Dear Editor:

The Harvest Jubilee was a fantastic event. Like the trains soon to arrive from far away places at our new station, the Harvest Jubilee brought folks from far and wide.

We know. They came to our farm. And bought what we offered.

But like every good locomotive, there has to be someone putting fuel in the engine or making sure electricity gets to the motors. And that person for us has been the ever-charming Vivian Henderson.

If you have not yet met her, you are in for a treat. If you do know her, you will understand our deep appreciation for her presence in the Stanwood/Camano community.

She is a tireless advocate for the high quality-of-life we share.

She has nudged and encouraged and badgered us lovingly to become a far better place, a place where— gasp—some of our youth might choose to return and live after graduating from colleges across the nation!

She reminds us we have a heritage. She helps us recall our roots.

She has been the one to put this person in touch with that person until the fabric of our agricultural world here has been woven into a flag we can proudly wave at passers bys.

She believes deeply in the value of the great organizations we have, from the Food Bank to The Floyd, and makes sure we all support them, too.

And she is humble.

She will be the first to tell you she can’t do it alone.

And she can’t, but together we can.

So please come join us when you see notices of meetings for the Harvest Jubilee. If you can’t make the meetings, contact Vivien through the Chamber of Commerce to offer a hand with some small part of this incredible event. And let her know you both appreciate the enhanced life you live because of her.
