Golfers donate $2,920 to Cancer Care rally
Dear Editor:
Recently, the Camaloch Ladies 18-Hole Club held a fundraising golf tournament. For the past three years, our club has donated money to the Cancer Care Center at Skagit Valley Regional Hospital.
Many of our members have used the services of this center so close to home. During this rally, we honored all of our members who have survived cancer, no matter what type.
So often we read in this local paper about the many businesses that contribute to the good of the cause. We are reliant on our local firms for so much and they are generous in contributing to all sorts of causes and issues, both locally and on a broader scale.
I want to publicly acknowledge that our group did not solicit any merchandise or prizes from our local merchants.
Instead, we held a field day and charged our members to participate in the many fun events. We had 54 golfers and other members who were not able to golf that day who made a significant contribution of $2,920 to the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation.
Our efforts bring to mind the quote attributed to Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Our Cancer Care rally committee includes Jeannie Shaw, Patti Pontikis and Beverly Furrer.
I am proud to be a member of the Camaloch Ladies 18-Hole Club and want to thank our golfers for their participation and contributions.
