Construction truck takes out poles

A flatbed truck took out two utility poles in Stanwood and the surrounding area last Tuesday.

The backhoe the truck was transporting had its arm extended, which caught on a television cable line and took out a telephone pole near Stanwood City Hall Tuesday evening, said Darin Reid, assistant fire chief for Stanwood-Camano Fire Department. The mishap caused some traffic snags downtown.

The extended machine also took out a power pole and line around 28th Avenue NW and 268th Street NW, said Christian Davis, public information officer for North County Fire and EMS. The pole was broken.

A Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) crew was on the scene quickly, he said.

No known power outages occurred, said Neil Neroutsos, PUD spokesman. Crews had the pole fixed by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
