Bike science


Mark Everett, owner of Velo Sport, demonstrates the properties of matter to Wade Johnson’s eighth grade science class at Port Susan Middle School recently. Everett was invited to share his knowledge of how the properties of matter are used in the bicycle industry. Bikes made of aluminum; chromoly and carbon fibers were brought into the classroom. Students used a triple-beam balance to compare the masses of components and saw raw materials, including sheets of carbon fiber.
