First winter walk of the season
Friends of Camano Island Parks will be hosting a winter walk Sat., Nov. 7, on the Camano Island State Park trails. Meet at the boat ramp picnic shelter area at 9:50 a.m. The guided walk takes place rain or shine; wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothes for the weather. The pace is moderate and the walk is completed by noon. There are views of Saratoga passage and Elger Bay from this forested loop trail. Walks take place the first Saturday of the month November to May. Bring family and friends. Pancake breakfast last of the year
The last pancake breakfast of the year will be at South Camano Grange Sat., Oct. 31, 8 to 11 a.m. For this Halloween breakfast, there will be pumpkin pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, ham and sausage. For information on membership or directions, call Pat, 629-3276. Door prize.
Corrected date for chili cook off
The 14th annual chowder and chili cookoff will be held Sat., Nov. 14, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Camano Senior and Community center on Arrowhead Rd. There will be a raffle of over 100 items, and numerous door prizes. A special live art auction is 1 to 3 p.m., with approximately 25 locals artists contributing to the event. County Club annual holiday bazaar

Halloween open house hours change
The Madrona Fire Sirens Halloween open house and children’s haunted tunnel will take place Sat., Oct. 31, 5-8 p.m. and not 4-9 p.m. “Families and children come for candy, cookies, a good time and you may win a door prize,” said a spokeswoman.
Work party at state parks, senior center
Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island state parks and the Camano Senior and Community Center next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues., Nov. 3, at the Camano Island State Park ranger station or at the senior center. Bring lunch; beverage and dessert provided. The Madrona Fire Sirens will meet Wed., Nov. 4 at the Madrona Fire Station, 916 W. Fifth Ave. Stained glass artist, musician and author Jack Archibald will be the guest speaker. Everyone interested is welcome to attend the noon meeting.
Women’s club to hear about candles
The Camano Country Club Women’s Club will meet Nov. 9, 10 a.m. for their monthly meeting/program and luncheon. The program will be on the making of beeswax candles by the Sisters of the Convent of the Meeting of the Lord. They will be offering their candles and other handmade items for sale. Lunch will be catered by Debbie Christopher. Sign-up for luncheon is on bulletin board in clubhouse entry hall. Ladies bridge (by reservation only) will follow at 12:30 p.m.
Fall birding field trip on Camano
Pam Pritzl, Skagit Audubon, will conduct a fall field trip to two bird-viewing areas on Camano Island Sat., Oct. 31, 9-11:30 a.m. The public is invited to come along to explore Iverson Spit Preserve, located on Port Susan Bay, observing diverse habitats that include extensive salt water, mud flats, marsh and beach, with shrubs and cropland nestled against a forested hillside; then walk the shoreline and marsh area trails at English Boom Historical Park located on Skagit Bay. Meet at Terry’s Corner Park and Ride, 860 N. Sunrise, behind Camano Island Coffee Roasters (green building) to stage in carpools and get directions to the county parks. Dress in layers appropriate for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring binoculars or scopes. Tour will take place rain or shine; no reservations required. Volunteer models needed for show
Volunteer models for afternoon teas are needed to model clothes from 1885 to 1985, with some choreography and “great” music. Models range in age between 19 and 73. The teas will be held once a month, in a non-profit show for retirement homes. Call Passion for Fashion, 387-3964 for more information.

Community meeting focus’ on tower
